Heidi Gatchell, COTA/L
Lead
I graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Technology and am a COTA/L. As the Supervisory Lead, I’ve been a dedicated member of the Perspectives Academy team since 2021. I began my career in childcare before transitioning into education, where I’ve continued to expand my skills in supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally. My favorite aspect of my role is interacting with students and building meaningful connections. I truly value the balance of sharing lighthearted moments with them while also being someone they can trust and rely on for support. The most rewarding part of my work is witnessing their growth and success, especially when I see them apply the skills they’ve developed here. I’ve had the privilege of observing students make progress both academically and socially, and even form lasting friendships. I always aim to create a space where our attendees feel comfortable, respected, and motivated to learn.
I’ve always had a passion for working with children and found that my strengths in empathy, compassion, and patience allow me to build supportive relationships. This inspiration grew even stronger when my youngest sister was diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, and later Autism. Supporting her through those challenges motivated me to dedicate my career to helping other children who may be experiencing similar circumstances. My goal has always been to provide the same level of care, understanding, and encouragement to other children that I was able to give my sister.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, listening to music, going to the gym, and reading a good book series. An interesting fact about me that might surprise people is that I’m the fourth oldest of twelve kids—yes, twelve! With six brothers and five sisters, there was never a dull moment growing up.
